Presets

Font presets, compared honestly

Eighteen presets on the same article, side by side, with notes on where each one earns its place.

A preset is a promise. Serif for the long essay, sans for the newsroom brief, typewriter for the column that wants to feel typed at midnight. This article walks the full set on one text so the differences are the only thing that changes.

How the comparison works

Every preset below is applied to the same three paragraphs, at the same size, on the same measure. Nothing else moves. If a preset feels calmer, it is the letterforms and the spacing doing the work, not the layout.

What to look for

Check the lowercase a, the figures in the date line, and the way italics sit inside a sentence. Presets that hold up at small sizes earn the body text job; the expressive ones headline and step aside.

The gallery page in this theme applies every preset to the same article automatically, so a publisher can decide in minutes instead of migrating content to find out.
